Do the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peels Really Work?

For as long as I can remember, I have always had issues with sensitive skin & redness. I wrote a whole blog post earlier this year about my skincare journey, so if you’re interested, you can go check it out!

I’m always on the look out for new products to address my skincare issues and one product that really stood out among the skincare gurus is the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Daily Peels. Many people have raved about and recommended these Alpha Beta Peels, but what really impressed me were all the positive reviews from people suffering rosacea. These folks used the Peels to combat redness & sensitive skin and ended up with great results! Despite the mostly positive feedback, I had my doubts and I didn’t think they Alpha Beta Peels would actually work for me and my sensitive skin. As I mentioned in my skincare journey blog post, I’ve tried many disappointing products in the past that have led me to temper my expectations when trying anything new.

With more free time at home as a result of the COVID-19 quarantine, I found myself watching all the Masterclass videos on Dr. Dennis Gross’ Youtube channel. They posted quite frequently addressing different types of skincare concerns and how to combat these issues with their products. At first, I watched these videos convinced that they were just going to be another skin care sales pitch. But the more videos I watched, the more it felt like I was actually sitting through a skin care science lecture that had a lot of value. If you’re a nerd or really interested in what you put onto your skin, you’ll really enjoy these Masterclasses. They’re very informative and Dr. Dennis Gross, who gives these lectures himself, gets very scientific and addresses many skincare concerns. He also talks about which ingredients in skin care products are really good for you and which ingredients to stay away from. Even if you don’t end up purchasing their products, I still think there is a lot to takeaway from the Dr. Dennis Gross Masterclasses. Overall, if you’re really into skincare and want to learn more about the routine, I think you’ll really appreciate Dr. Dennis Gross himself explaining the science behind all his products!

After attending numerous Masterclasses and reading through a plethora of really good reviews on Sephora I decided to take the plunge.

WHAT ARE THE ALPHA BETA PEELS?

The Alpha Beta Peel is a 2 step at-home treatment to create radiance, smoother skin texture and refine pores. Long term usage benefits include the prevention of breakdown of collagen and sending signals to produce new collagen to prevent aging.

These at-home peels are designed as a 2 step peel in order to be more effective. The first step loosens layers of dead skin cells and treats pores. The second step delivers powerful antioxidants and anti-aging actives to renew the skin and restores a youthful look.

HOW MANY KINDS OF PEELS ARE THERE?

There are 3 kinds of Alpha Beta Peels for 3 skin types. I use the Ultra Gentle for dry or sensitive skin. The picture below gives you some insight as to which peel you should use depending on your skin type. There’s also a quiz you can take on their official website that will tell you which peel is right for you!

The Peels are available at Sephora and normally go for $115.00 CAD for 35 treatments. If you’re considering picking up the Universal or Extra Strength pads then you’re in luck because they also come in a Mini size (5 treatments) for $22.50 CAD. Unfortunately the Ultra Gentle peel pads (the ones I use) only come in packs of 35.

ARE THEY REALLY WORTH IT?

Seeing it is believing it. I took a picture of my face every few days to track my progress with the peels. I started using the daily peels 1 – 2x a week and gradually ramped up to daily use. I still have a few pads left but I’m really impressed with my results. The redness on my skin has significantly reduced and my skin is actually brighter! My pores have reduced in size and my skin is the smoothest its ever been.

The progress photos start from the top left and go left to right, top to bottom. I tried to take these photos around the same time in the evenings. My washroom is away from natural lighting so this is all indoor lighting.

WHAT DO YOU APPLY BEFORE AND AFTER THESE PEELS?

The ideal regimen is cleanser, peel, serum, moisturizer & then sunscreen. I use AmorePacific Treatment Cleansing Oil followed by the Alpha Beta Gentle Daily Peel and then Dr. Dennis Gross’ Stress Repair Face Cream for moisturizer. I typically use these peels in the evening however I will apply sunscreen before I head out in the mornings.

If you search up “sensitive skin” on Dr. Dennis Gross’ website, it lists out all of Dr. Dennis Gross products for sensitive skin. According to their masterclasses, all of their blue bottles labelled “Stress Rescue with Niacinamide” are good for redness & sensitive skin. Their products are not exactly cheap but I really do believe they work and my next purchase will be their Super Serum with Niacinamide.

I HOPE THIS REVIEW HAS HELPED YOU! THESE DAILY PEEL PADS HAVE BROUGHT ME A LOT OF JOY AND I HOPE THEY DO THE SAME FOR YOU!
