Weekend Readings Links 06.19.20

Happy Friday & Weekend friends! Last weekend felt incredibly short and this week has been kind of slow for me on the work front, so I’m totally looking forward to this weekend. Last weekend, Eden and I purchased dim sum from Chinatown and brought it to my parent’s house in Oakville to celebrated both my dad’s birthday and early Father’s day. We ate the dim sum on the driveway “Beauty and the Beast style” – we had one long table across the driveway and ate at opposite ends to be safe :). We even made 2 separate dim sum orders so we wouldn’t have to share food!

This week felt pretty great; I managed to sneak in a few morning running sessions before work. This Sunday for Father’s Day, we’re going to be having a picnic at the park and I’m SO excited for it! I’m really weird – I love being outside but I also hate being under the sun at the same time. But now that we’re slowly coming out of quarantine, I’m not going to complain about being under the sun and I will enjoy every bit of outdoor I can get!

The ladies from Bad on Paper Podcast intervewed Ayana Lage on this week’s episode. Ayana shares her thoughts of anti-racism, going viral and being a black influencer right now. I highly recommend you listen to this!

Grace Atwood’s Amazon The Drop collection dropped yesterday at noon and is only available for 30 hours. I love all her nightgown summer dresses. If you’re lucky, you can probably still snag a few pieces yourself.

In terms of food, this week at work we tried Hoki Poke and its SO GOOD! I get their regular bowl with 2x salmon sashimi with avocado, crab salad & seaweed salad. The bowl itself comes with purple rice, spinach (I want to say?) and edamame beans. The best thing about this bowl is their umami sauce.

For our regular sushi consumption, this week Eden and I are OBSESSED with Rollstar via Skip the Dishes. My co-worker randomly ordered it to the office one day and I’ve been hooked ever since. The pieces are fresher and bigger than our usual local take out joints and it just tastes so good.

In terms of books, I’m currently still reading Such a Fun Age and just purchased The Chiffon Trenches by Andre Leon Talley. This book was out of stock for the longest time so I’m really glad its back and can’t wait to get my hands of it. Both of these books are mentioned in my “Books I’m Reading to Educate Myself & Support the Black Community” post
