One Of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus

SYNOPSIS: On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
AndSimon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.

Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention, Simon’s dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?
Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

MY THOUGHTS: Guys, I’m not one to normally pick up a murder mystery / thriller book but One of Us is Lying came highly recommended by many bloggers and bookstagrammers. They were right about this book – I COULD NOT put it down the second I started reading it. The book takes us straight into the murder – Karen McManus does not beat around the bush. The story is told in each of Bronwyn, Cooper, Nate and Addy’s perspectives and the perspective alternates between each character every couple of pages. The author does a really amazing job of humanizing the characters and you get to see everyone’s good and bad sides. I did not see the ending coming at all (don’t worry, I won’t give away any spoilers!) I recommend you to start reading this book on a weekend where you have the whole day to yourself. I made the mistake of starting this book on a Monday which forced me unwillingly to finish it over 3 nights. Eden decided to start the book on a Sunday night around 10 PM and finished it in one sitting, around 2 AM.

Overall rating: 4/5
