Ontario: Where to stay in Port Hope – Hotel Carlyle

For the second part of our visit to the city of Port Hope, we stayed at Hotel Carlyle. Located in the heart of downtown Port Hope, Hotel Carlyle was originally built in 1857 as a bank. Interestingly enough, the bank vault has now been turned into a private dining space inside their gorgeous restaurant. In terms of accommodations, they have ten rooms available that were designed to preserve the past while offering all of the comforts of a modern hotel. Their rooms were recently renovated and we were lucky enough to stay in one of them!

All rooms include free WiFi access, complimentary made-to-order breakfast (served to hotel guests only), the Continual Soiree Dining & Drinks and in-room dining! The photos of each of the10 rooms are posted on their website here. I love the clean, Victorian look of the rooms and if you check out their website, you’ll know what I mean!

Upon arrival at Hotel Carlyle & Restaurant, you’ll soon realize the concept is more of an inn. There is no front desk but signs will lead you to the restaurant. We checked in with the friendly staff at the bar who helped us with our luggage and led us to our room. She gave us a quick tour of the room, and showed us how to use some of the amenities and also reminded us of our breakfast time the next morning.

We stayed in Room # 5, which had more of an urban look with the exposed brick walls and wooden bed frame. We felt right at home as soon as we checked in and there was ample of space for the 2 of us!

The bank turned restaurant is a gorgeous space that is great for an evening dinner. Eden and I sampled quite a few of the different dishes on the menu including their lobster cheesebake (which we really enjoyed!). How can you go wrong with heaps of lobster chunks baked with mushroom, bacon and crème fraîche? We were also fortunate to enjoy their lamb rack and New York strip loin.

After a good night’s rest, we made our way to the solarium for breakfast. We both opted for their classic breakfast and enjoyed the tranquility of the solarium with natural sunlight pouring in.

If you are looking for a place to stay in downtown Port Hope I would fully recommend staying at Hotel Carlyle. And even if you are just stopping by I cannot say enough good things about the restaurant there also!

That’s it from me! Please be sure to leave a comment if you have any questions about our adventures in Port Hope! Feel free to also follow along my Instagram page where I update daily with what I’m up to!
