Marilyn Monroe Cafe

Marilyn Monroe Cafe (@MarilynMonroe), a cozy little cafe, opened a few months ago in downtown Oakville. I first heard about this cafe when my friend had mentioned about attending their grand opening. And of course, the name alone is somewhat intriguing for me to check it out, so I decided to visit them on a bright and early Saturday morning.

Marilyn Monroe Cafe is located at the end of downtown Oakville strip on Lakeshore Road. The decor here is very chic, lovely and a modern soft white with lots of natural light brightening up the cafe. It was rather busy on a Saturday morning – actually it was packed.

Marilyn Monroe Cafe offers an assortment of goodies: They have your classic espresso beverages, premium espresso beverages such as Caramel Latte, Caramel Macchiato, Hazelnut Latte and quite a variety of signature espresso beverages such as Spiced Chai Tea Latte, Raspberry Truffle Latte and Red Velvet Latte. They also offer a lot of baked goods: bagels, cupcakes, cake slices, croissants and cookies.

Once you’ve placed your order they also give it to you right away and then you go find a seat yourself. This cozy cafe is 2 stories high – it is spacious but on the Saturday I visited, it was extremely packed – we ended up waiting for quite some time. By the time we found seats, our table & the floor around us were dirty. No one had bothered to clean up because they were too busy at the counter.

Creme Brulee Latte ($4.45 – Medium)

Classic Cookie ($1.35) & Original French Croissant  ($2.25)

My verdict? The cookie and croissant were quite mediocre. I would have expected much higher quality food.  The latte that I ordered was alright. Nothing really stood out for me. It would be nice if they have someone clean the tables and floors especially on a busy Saturday morning. If I’m ever in downtown Oakville again you’ll probably find me at Starbucks down the street.

    At least they make latte art … of .. a snowman .. right .. ? no .. ? never mind =P
The croissant looks a bit dry and overbaked as well .. ptooie. I always like to support the non-chains, but sounds like they still have growing pains.
