Scaddabush @ Yonge & Gerrard

After recently visiting Scaddabush Italian Kitchen & Bar (@Scaddabush)‘s  first location in Square One, Mississauga not too long ago, they promptly opened a second location 2 weeks ago two blocks away from the Eaton Center.  Here’s the thing: I had two completely different dining experiences at the different locations. My first experience at the Square One location was a relaxing – 2 person dinner – sharing a pasta and pizza and what not. My experience at the Yonge & Gerrard location last Thursday on the other hand – I can say, was more like an epic feast. (I’ll explain more later)

As soon as you walk through the main doors – you’re exposed to a galore of their high top communal tables right next to this open bar. TVs and mirrors are plastered all over their exposed brick wall with spot lights hovering over the middle giving this place sort of a rustic / “underground” feel.

We were then brought to the main dining area and myself joined with a large group of media outlets and foodies were sat on this incredibly large communal table plotted right down the middle of the restaurant.  This long wooden communal table seriously reminded me of a Harry Potter scene with candles situated in between every 4-5 guests.

The executive chef introduced himself and explained that their goal is to ensure everyone dines like a big happy family. And by a big happy family, I mean literally large portions of dishes kept on filling our tables one after the other – almost like an assembly line. Each and everyone of us were so happy (or overwhelmed) with these non stop appetizers, entrees – pizzas, pastas, desserts that kept on coming. It was pretty epic – and a true Italian dining experience.

First to come was the :

Chicken Parm Bites

  • SCADDABUSH spice, Parmesan aïoli, Sunday sauce

Tuscan Salad

  • Baby red and green kale, arugula, marinated raisins, toasted pumpkin seeds, semi sun dried tomatoes, cipollini onions, pecorino cheese, balsamic lemon vinaigrette

Caesar Salad (Small $5.76 / Large $8.71)

  • Romaine, crispy pancetta, croutons, Grana Padano, house-made dressing

Bruschetta Rustica ($9.77)

  • Focaccia, roasted garlic, Roma tomatoes, Grana Padano, basil, balsamic reduction

Pingue Prosciutto ($15.98)

  • Focaccia crostini, fig jam, extra-virgin olive oil, sea salt

Burrata Mozzarella

  • Infused with honey and truffle, focaccia crostini

Classic Meatballs

  • A shareable on focaccia crostini, cheese sauce, garlic chips, fresh basil

Stuffed Meatball

  • Asiago cheese, pepperonata

Pesto Pollo (Large $16.77 / Small $13.87)

  • Fresh fettuccine, sautéed chicken, baby spinach, semi sun-dried tomatoes, basil pesto cream sauce

Diavolo

  • Spicy chicken, mozzarella, pecorino, caramelized onions, roasted tiny tomatoes, balsamic reduction

The Butcher ($15.97)

  • Bacon, Niagara Berkshire sausage, pepperoni, mozzarella, roasted garlic, red onions, San Marzano tomato sauce

Far Right: Apple Rivioli ($6.51)

  • Sweet pastry, caramel apple filling, icing sugar, caramel sauce

Center: Tiramisu ($6.92)

  • Lady fingers, sweet marsala, espresso, mascarpone cream, cocoa

Zeppole ($4.78)

  • Deep fried sweet dough, dusted with citrus sugar, served with chocolate hazelnut sauce for dipping

Cafe Latte ($3.95)

This epic authentic Italian feast left us all happy campers! From the second the food was placed on the table, photos being taken from all directions, we literally all devoured everything that was placed in front of us like clock work! In terms of the foods, I’ve never been much of the “oh i’ll stick a whole piece of cheese in my mouth” but it worked this time! The melted hot gooey piece of mozzarella that we smothered all over the crostini was actually really yummy and not overwhelming at all. It left me feeling really bubbly – if you know what i mean! Overall, I would recommend the mozzarella, the buffalo pizza (I did try the Diavolo but it was really spicy for me personally) and the pesto pollo. Scaddabush is a fun place to grab a few casual drinks and share plates and plates of meatballs and mozzarella!
