Media Tasting @ The Happy Hooker

I confess – ever since The Happy Hooker (@HappyHookerTdot) opened its doors to the public in the Dundas West area, I’ve wanted to go check them out especially seeing mouth watering pictures of  their tacos & the surf and turf sandwich. However, every attempt I’ve made to go, something unexpected happens throughout the day which prevents me from visiting.  Lucky enough for me, last week I attended their media tasting and had the opportunity to sample many popular food items off their menu. UNlucky for me – I had to leave early and totally missed out on the lobster roll that everyone appears to be talking about – I should really go back JUST for that.

Once you walk into the Happy Hooker – its a room decorated with a very vintage feel – an old type writer – a fixated large machine of pacman and a few vintage pictures hung  on the wall The menu for the evening was printed on a nice piece of legal paper – all of us were sitting tightly anticipating each course after the next…

Cocktail: Dark & Stormy

Kale Salad

  • organic kale, baby arugula, watermelon radishes, cucumber, pickled cabbage, house made red wine vinaigrette

Baja Fries

  • Crispy Russet Potatoes, Cheddar Cheese, Adobo Chipotle sauce, Lime crema, onion, cilantro, house made guacamole

Shrimp po’boy

  • Cornmeal breaded shrimp, lemon aioli, baby arugula, sliced tomato, pickled habarneros, kosher pickles, butter toasted Portuguese bun (local bakery)

Close Up Shrimp Taco

  • Grilled shrimp seasoned with cumin salt, adobo chipotle sauce, lime crema, pickled green cabbage, habanero pico do gallo

Cali Baja Taco

  • breaded and fried alaskan pollock, melted cheddar cheese, shredded romaine lettuce, diced tomato, lime crema, house made guacamole

I ended up leaving the tasting before a few others and while this was happening, they were serving the Lobster Roll. Unfortunately I wasn’t unable to try this but all the tweets and instagram pictures had got me drooling *sigh* the power of social media! Regardless, I quite enjoyed the shrimp po’boy and the baja fries – but will definitely be back to try THE lobster Roll 🙂 Be sure to follow them on Twitter for special deals – Last Friday, The Happy Hooker offered $2 fish and chips! blogsignature This meal was complimentary but Foodinthecitytoronto.com remains unbiased in our content
